American Airlines Posts Unexpected Profit (Www airtran airlines)

DALLAS - Its planes bulging with passengers and fuel prices easing, American Airlines reported Wednesday that it turned a profit in the fourth quarter, a further sign of stability in the long-stalled industry.
TOKYO (AFP) - Japan Airlines (JAL) said it would rearrange its international flights to shift the focus to profitable routes as part of its restructuring efforts.
American Airlines' parent, AMR Corp., posted a fourth-quarter profit last year, giving the carrier its first annual profit since 2000.
Northwest Airlines apologized on Wednesday to 40 American Muslims who were barred from a recent flight to Detroit, but denied it discriminated against the group, which was returning from a Hajj pilgrimage.
